The 19^th Annual Whistle-Stop Festival will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2010 in Historic Irondale, Alabama. The Whistle-Stop Festival brings together artists, craftsmen, and musicians from all over the South East. Returning to headline the 2010 festival is Lil’ Malcolm and the Zydeco House Rockers, who will perform from 7pm – 10pm, other musical acts include Mile Marker 7 and Crankshaft.

The Exchange Club of Irondale is sponsoring the Whistle-Stop Walk-a-thon beginning at 7:30am. You can find the sing up sheet with the other festival forms.

In addition to the various musical acts the festival will feature a muster of vintage fire engines, carnival games for kids, food vendors offering everything from BBQ to funnel cakes, a display of vintage cars, and a cooking demonstration. Also, appearing this year will be the vendors who make up the Irondale Community Farmer’s Market. The Historic Irondale Café will be open all day from 9am to 5pm serving up their legendary fried green tomatoes.

It’s not too late to secure a booth for the 2010 Whistle-Stop Festival. We will continue to accept applications until September 20^th!

Despite torrential rains throughout the morning and early afternoon The Eighteenth Annual Whistle-Stop Festival was a unmitigated success for fans of live music. The clouds parted around three o’clock in time for Irondale’s own Mile Marker 7 to take the stage and electrify the audience with their blend of roots-jam-rock.

Next up Mobile’s Grits N’ Pieces made their first Whistle-Stop appearance, delighting the crowd with their acoustic guitar wizardry and soaring vocal harmonies. As the sun began to set Lil’ Malcolm and the Zydeco House Rockers from Lake Charles, Louisiana took the stage and thrilled festival goers with a high energy set including songs from Bob Dylan and ZZ Top. The nights festivities wrapped up with Birmingham favorite The Desert Rose Band and their precise take on several classic rock staples.
